Picking the Right Size Self Storage Unit

It’s a common occurrence in self storage – many of our customers don’t get enough space and end up having to move into a bigger unit quicker than they thought they would.  The result is usually a super-cluttered storage unit and lots of headaches to go along with it. When it comes to self storage, size does matter, and it’s better to get it right the first time.

If your self storage unit is too small, then you’re going to end up stuffing it full of items to the point where you won’t be able to organize effectively.  In other words, you’re going to have a big mess, and it’s going to happen very fast.  Nothing is more frustrating than a self storage unit that is overloaded and impossible to sort through.

The best thing to do is to make an inventory of everything you want to go into storage and determine the right size beforehand.  Do not simply make a guess.  You will usually have more items going in than you realize, and it will almost always take up more room than you’re anticipating.

When you choose a size, it’s usually best to assume you will eventually need one size bigger. That gives you room to grow, and it gives you plenty of room to organize and have structure while you are packing things into the unit.  In this case, more is always better than not enough.
